This article is basically saying that the 'carrot-and-stick' method of motivation is very limited its effectiveness and cannot be used to raise kids who are creative in problem solving. The author Dana Truby interviews author Daniel Pink (<i>Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us</i>)in this article about motivation that works for this day and age. He calls it Motivation 3.0. Motivation 2.0 was the carrot-and-stick approach which ensures compliance but Motivation 3.0 ensures engagement. He also explains what is 'toxic praise'... which is very interesting...as I have my own ideas of what 'toxic praise' is and very often involves...uh... that will be the subject of another post...<br /><br />Read all about it here.
